- Case number. The number allotted when the case was registered.
- Year. When it was filed, not the year of your next hearing.

Worth keeping to hand: your CNR, the 16-character code printed on every order and filing receipt. It never changes, so it's the thing to quote when you deal with the registry, and it's what a district court search takes as its key.

How do I check Allahabad High Court case status by case number?
Pick your case type, enter the case number and the year it was filed, then choose whether the case is at Prayagraj or the Lucknow Bench. The case type matters: a Writ-C and a Writ-A with the same number are different cases.
How do I check Allahabad High Court case status by party name?
Search by petitioner or respondent name along with the filing year. The year is mandatory on the eCourts record, so a name alone will not return results. Partial names work, but common surnames return long lists.
Is the Lucknow Bench searched separately from Allahabad?
Yes. The Lucknow Bench maintains its own case register and its own cause list. A case filed at Lucknow will not appear in a Prayagraj search, which is the single most common reason a search comes back empty.
Where do I find the Allahabad High Court cause list?

What is a CNR number and where is mine?
The CNR (Case Number Record) is a permanent 16-character code that identifies your case for life, unlike a case number which repeats every year. Allahabad CNRs begin with ALHC. It is printed on any order copy or filing receipt.
Is the UP High Court the same as the Allahabad High Court?
Yes. There is no court formally called the UP High Court or the Uttar Pradesh High Court. Both names refer to the Allahabad High Court, which sits at Prayagraj with a bench at Lucknow.
Which districts go to the Lucknow bench?
The Lucknow bench covers the twelve districts of the old Oudh region, including Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Rae Bareli and Sultanpur. Everything else in Uttar Pradesh goes to Prayagraj.
Is Prayagraj the same as Allahabad?
Yes. The city was renamed Prayagraj in 2018 and the court kept its original style, so it remains the Allahabad High Court while sitting at Prayagraj. Cases from Uttarakhand filed before 2000 are also on this register rather than the Uttarakhand High Court one.
