Bombay High Court case status
Check Bombay High Court case status by case number or by party name. The court sits at Mumbai with benches at Nagpur, Aurangabad and Goa, and each keeps its own register.
Mumbai itself is split twice over, into an Original Side and an Appellate Side, which are separate registers again. Picking the wrong one is the usual reason a Bombay search returns nothing.

Before you search
Four things, and all four have to be right.
Get one wrong and you get an empty result, not an error. That's what makes these searches so frustrating.
- Case type. The same number goes out under every type each year. A writ petition and a criminal appeal can both be 1234.
- Case number. The number allotted when the case was registered.
- Year. When it was filed, not the year of your next hearing.
- Bench. this court sits in 5 places, and each keeps its own register. They're listed below.
Worth keeping to hand: your CNR, the 16-character code printed on every order and filing receipt. It never changes, so it's the thing to quote when you deal with the registry, and it's what a district court search takes as its key.
Benches
Pick the right seat, or you'll find nothing.
Each bench of the Bombay High Court keeps its own register and its own cause list. A case filed at one simply doesn't appear in a search of another, and that, far more than anything else, is why a search you're sure should work comes back empty.
- Appellate Side, Bombay
- Original Side, Bombay
- Bench at Nagpur
- Bench at Aurangabad
- Bench at Goa
Cause list
Where your case falls in the day.
The registry publishes the next day's running order each evening: court number, bench, and where your matter sits in the list. Each bench publishes its own. Find your case above, then track it and we'll tell you when it's next listed.

Questions
The things people ask us.
Is there a Mumbai High Court?
Not by that name. The court kept the style Bombay High Court after the city was renamed in 1995, so Mumbai High Court and Bombay High Court mean the same court.
What is the difference between the Original Side and the Appellate Side?
The Original Side hears suits filed in the High Court itself, mostly commercial matters from Mumbai city. The Appellate Side hears appeals and writs from courts below. They keep separate registers, so a search of one does not reach the other.
Which Bombay High Court bench covers my district?
Vidarbha districts go to Nagpur, the Marathwada districts to Aurangabad, Goa to the Goa bench at Panaji, and the rest of Maharashtra to Mumbai.
Is the Nagpur High Court a separate court?
No. It is a bench of the Bombay High Court, with its own register but not its own jurisdiction as a separate High Court.
Does the Bombay High Court cover Goa?
Yes. Goa is served by the Bombay High Court's bench at Panaji, along with Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

If this isn't your court
Where to look instead.
Filed somewhere else? Gujarat High Court, Karnataka High Court and MP High Court sit next door. If you are not sure which High Court a case belongs to, the High Court case status directory is the place to start, and the seat is decided by where the case was filed rather than where you live.
A matter below the High Court will not be on this register at all. For those, use court case status from the taluka court up, which also accepts a CNR.
We read the public eCourts record, so this is only as current as the registry has published. If something turns on a deadline or a limitation period, check with the registry or your advocate. Don't rely on us for that. If it's the law itself you need, the bare acts are here in full.
