Four ways to find your case.
You do not need all of these. Any one of them is enough to pull the record.
By case number
The number printed on your filing receipt. Bring all three parts: case type, number and year. Courts reissue the same serial under every case type each year, so "482 of 2024" on its own matches several unrelated cases.
By party name
Your name, or the other side's. This is the one to use when the papers are still with your advocate. High Court searches need the filing year as well.
By CNR number
The sixteen character code that identifies one case across every court in India. If you have it, this is the most precise route there is. District courts only for now.
By advocate
A bar registration number pulls that advocate's full case list for the court. District courts only.

How to check a court case status.
Find your case number
It is on the filing receipt, the vakalatnama, or any order sheet you have been given. It reads as a case type, a serial number and a year.
Pick the court
State, district and court complex for a district matter. Bench for a High Court one. If you are unsure which complex, the establishment list narrows it down.
Enter all three parts
Case type, number and year together. Leaving the type out is the single most common reason a search comes back empty.

Questions people actually ask.
What is a CNR number?
CNR stands for Case Number Record. It is a sixteen character code that identifies one case uniquely across every court in India: four letters for the court, then digits for the establishment, the serial number and the year. It never changes, even if your case is transferred or renumbered.
What does a CNR number look like?
Four letters followed by twelve digits, like DLCT010123452024. You will find it on any order sheet, or on the acknowledgement slip from the filing counter.
Can I check a High Court case by CNR?
Not yet. CNR lookup works for district courts today. For a High Court case, search by case number or by party name instead and we will find the same record.
How do I check a case status without a case number?
Search by party name. Your own name works as well as the opposing party's. For a High Court case you will need the filing year too, because the registry will not run an open ended name query.
Where do I find my docket number?
In Indian courts the equivalent is your case number, printed on the filing receipt as a case type, a serial number and a year together. The CNR is the closest thing to a single permanent identifier.
Is this the official eCourts website?
No. Nyay is an independent service and is not affiliated with eCourts, the Supreme Court, any High Court or any government body. We read the same public case records that anyone can. The difference is that we keep reading them for you instead of making you check by hand.
How current is the information?
It comes from the official registry at the moment you ask for it. We re-check tracked cases through the day, and every case shows the exact time we last fetched it successfully. If a check fails, we show that too.
Why does my search return nothing?
Almost always the case type is missing or wrong. The same serial number is issued under every case type each year, so the registry needs all three parts before it can match. The next most common cause is the wrong court complex.
Can I see the court order?
For district court cases, yes. We list orders and judgments with the case, and they open as PDFs on the court's own server. High Court order downloads are not available through us yet.
Can I see the daily case list?
Yes, for district courts. Pick the court and the date and we pull that day's listing.
What happens if I miss a hearing?
That is the problem this exists to prevent. A tracked case tells you when the next date is set, and tells you again if it moves.
How many cases can I track?
Checking a case status is always free. The free plan limits how many you can track at once. The paid plans lift that. Compare plans.
